The Global Energy Transition - Challenges and Opportunities for Academic and Industrial Research

The energy industry has begun the transition towards production of renewable and carbon-neutral energy sources. For a successful decarbonization, major efforts need to be undertaken across the entire value chain.

An uncomfortable fact is that the transition to a carbon-neutral economy inevitably will incur significant economic and social costs. From that perspective the prospects of any novel technology or process need to be scrutizined better than ever. We present several innovation projects we are working on at TechnipFMC that seek to adopt this principle.

Many interesting and promising technologies that may facilitate the energy transition are being developed and studied in the academic sector. We would like to challenge the researchers to embrace a mindset early on that the successful deployment of any new technology ultimately requires it to be affordable, scalable and profitable for this greatest task of our time.
