We envision the Center for Research on Advanced Membranes and Porous Materials (AMPM) to be the premier membrane and adsorption-based process research center in the world, helping Saudi Arabia to achieve its Vision 2030 goal of building "a thriving country in which all citizens can fulfill their dreams, hopes and ambitions."
Our mission is to alleviate the energy penalty and prohibitive cost associated with the separation, purification and conversion of petroleum and other industrial commodities amounting to nearly 40% produced energy across the world. To do so, we train students and early-career researchers to design and deploy disruptive membrane- and/or sorbent-based technologies that mitigate this energy penalty, to exploit petroleum resources for other high-value uses, and to produce greener and cleaner chemical and fuel stocks and chemical processes.
Develop know-how on membranes and functional adsorbents to address undeniable national and international challenges pertaining to energy production and its environmental impact.
Foster a training environment that enables young researchers to develop disruptive technologies that tackle and address energy-intensive separations and provide efficient catalytic pathways based on functional porous materials for the conversion of CO2 and CH4 into valuable chemicals. AMPM-trained scientists will be readily qualified to join the knowledge-based workforce in Saudi Arabia and worldwide and to contribute to a science-based entrepreneurial economy that finds creative and sustainable solutions for the ever-increasing energy demand and climate change.
Support Saudi Arabia's strategic initiatives in sustainable energy and carbon mitigation/conversion by developing patentable technologies and valuable intellectual properties.
