On Monday April 23rd, AMPM Center hosted a delegation from Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA). Our guests were consultants specialized in climate change visiting KAUST to learn more about Research Centers and how they are contributing to environmental sustainability.
AMPM Center Director, Prof. Mohamed Eddaoudi was Out-of-Kingdom, so Mr. Nigel Metge, Business Manager gave a brief overview of AMPM Center. Dr. Youssef Belmabkhout, Senior Research Scientist gave a technical summary of our work on carbon capture and sequestration.
The delegates showed special interest in new technologies for CO2 capture and sensing of toxic gases for personnel protection.
“AMPM Center is researching advanced carbon capture technology where carbon dioxide (CO2) can be separated selectively from concentrations as high as 50% down to ambient 400 ppm”, Dr. Youssef Belmabkhout explained. “Indoor and outdoor sensing of CO2 is an important component in health and safety and pollution control”, he added.
MEWA representatives toured our Center laboratories: Synthesis, Characterization, Permeation and Hollow Fiber Pilots led by Dr. Kexin Kao, Laboratory Manager. They remarked on the extraordinary capacity and quality equipment of our Center. Especially discussed was the feasibility of scaling up and industrializing novel materials.
The Ministry Vision is to achieve sustainability of environment and natural resources, such as to ensure water security, food security and quality of life in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in alignment with Vision 2030.
